How we help couples and families connect and thrive

Deeper appreciation of what each family member brings

Couple and family dynamics can be tender. We tell ourselves stories to explain others’ behaviors, stories that are heavily informed by our life experiences. Here’s how we can help you increase mutual appreciation and understanding:

  • Activities to understand and empathize with each member’s experience, and extend an invitation to contribute to how the partnership or family will “be” going forward.

  • New tools and habits to notice and express mutual fondness and admiration.

  • Individualized Strengthsfinder assessments for insight into strengths, blind spots, and how to effectively manage both.

Build meaning and purpose together

We’ll help you rise above the daily task-oriented experiences, and reenergize your relationship via creative activities to:

  • Revisit and realign on what matters most, how you want to be together, and why

  • Carve out space for deeper connection during coaching sessions, and align on to continue that connection the next day, and beyond

  • Envision the high dream, face the low dream, and define concrete steps to make the high dream a reality.

Your family is unique, and so is our approach.

I would love to tell you we can address all issues in one session! But it took time to get where you are, and it will take time and energy to invest in changing behaviors and perspectives. Depending on the scope and depth of what you commit to accomplishing, here are typical options (50 minute sessions):

  • For a specific topic with a defined timeline (e.g. priorities for a remodel or new purchase; making a decision on investment strategies), 3 sessions to establish the coaching relationship and initial commitments, midpoint check-in, and final closeout. Note: be prepared for deeper issues to emerge in these conversations that invite additional exploration beyond the initial three sessions.

  • To refresh and elevate your relationship based on Gottman’s “7 Principles,” 10 focused sessions to build new communication and conflict management skills.

  • StrengthsFinder assessments can be included to provide mutual understanding and insight to leverage individuals’ innate strengths and manage blind spots.

Skills and tools to effectively manage differences

We equip you to navigate conflict more skillfully through:

  • Exercises to neutralize the “charge” and align on common interests.

  • Role exploration and realignment: not just of named roles (e.g. “husband,” “wife”), but of the inner unnamed roles that serve the relationship’s needs (e.g. the provocateur vs. the peacemaker; the homebody vs. the adventurer). When there’s role fatigue, we support an opportunity for the relationship redefine how those roles can be more skillfully filled.

  • Pulling the curtain back to understand “the dream behind the complaint” and discover the two percent truth.
